Jeff Ireland has been heavily criticized over the
last few years and deservedly so given the Miami Dolphins has not provided a winning
season since the Chad Pennington era (a short but good one) when we won the division.
However in this year’s off season, possibly Jeff Irelands last given his
contract is up you can’t really see Ross giving him an undeserved extension if
he doesn't produce a winning season. Jeff has shown some serious marbles
through free agency landing PLAY MAKERS like Mike Wallace, Dustin Keller,
Brandon Gibson, Brent Grimes, and resigning Hartline spending about a 100
million of Steven Ross money.
That was a great start, but I'm sure that just
like me the rest of the Dolphins fan base is not ready to crown him GM of the
year just yet. As I'm sure most of you were last night I was actually quite
nervous and apprehensive as the big night approached, and speculation swirled
about what the Dolphins might do. Some were reporting that we were looking to
trade up by giving up valuable pics for an OT, this actually made a ton of
sense given Irelands history and the connections between Sherman and highly rated
LT Luke Joeckell. After Joeckell was snatched by the Jags I would like to think
we all gave a collective sigh of relieve. Then it happened we had managed to
strike a trade with OAK at great value to move up to number 3, the common
believe was that O.U LT Lane Johnson was the pick and as great a prospect as he
might be there were mixed feelings about him amongst fans. The pick turned out
to be one of my favorite players this draft had to offer. 6 foot 7 DE Dion
Jordan the most quick twitch rusher available. This was the bold and aggressive
move fans were hoping for on a night full of unveiling's and surprises. This
was a great pick and great night for Dolphins fans.
I think we should give credit where credit is
due. We made a good pick and a bargain trade; we also didn't bite on Albert yet.
The moves made buy the Dolphins brass have really shown the intend of a new era
made up of not just flashy new uniforms but the intend of WINNING at all cost.
However this was just the start of a good night and there is still 6 rounds for
Ireland to find at least 3 more contributing starters for next year. Until this
happens I'm not ready to call this a great draft there is still talent to find
and needs to address. When that is done after the weekend I will have no
problem saying on paper this was a great draft.
