The Shft Turns From Jeff Ireland To Ryan Tannehill and Joe Philbin

Although there are some positions that still need to be addressed for the most part Jeff Ireland has done his job. He has attacked free agency like never before in his tenure as GM of the Miami Dolphins. Spending over a 100 million in free agency alone he brought in playmakers, and matchup nightmares such as Mike Wallace, and Dustin Keller, along with Brandon Gibson. He gave the Defense a younger, faster, more aggressive look too. Veterans like Karlos Dansby, and Kevin Burnett who were coming from what many consider to be very productive seasons were released. Their replacements are former Superbowl winner Darnelle Ellerbe, and Phillip Wheeler. Granted it does seem like a risky move given they are both young and haven’t necessarily done it on a consistent basis. All in all we got younger and faster at the LB position.

The draft was also very eventful, and on paper a solid one. Starting out with a blockbuster trade from12 to 3 for DE Dion Jordan. Along with the addition of several other players that conform this year’s rookie class. One area of the team that needs to be fixed is the Oline a lot of questions remain there and Ireland might even be willing to sign not one but two OTs before September comes around.

Even though there are still some key wholes to be dealt with on the roster, it’s time to now focus on two men. Those two men happened to be Joe Philbin and Ryan Tannehill. Here is why, it really doesn’t matter how many weapons you have, or how fast your wrs can run. In the end of the day as Steven Ross said Saturday before the draft kicked off you need a QB. You also need some playmakers to help out that QB, a strong Oline to keep him upright to (Hopefully Jeff makes his mind up soon on the matter). Finally you need a HC and offensive coordinator who will maximize the QBs abilities, minimize his weaknesses, and put him in the best position to succeed. This job description fits two people, Joe Philbin and Mike Sherman. Although in reality more weight lies on the shoulders of Philbin, after all he is the HC who hired his staff. Joe Philbin comes from an O in GB where it was all about exploding mismatches, and great QBS. To put it simply Joe Philbins job is to put Tannehill in position to take advantages of this mismatches. I trust that with a seam thread TE, a WR like Mike Wallace, and a promising young RB like Lamar Miller it could all come together for these two men to take the next step forward.
